History of Colour TherapyIMG_0863

Colour has been used in healing since the time of Atlantis where they used colour, sound and crystals for healing. Ancient cultures around the world hold the belief that light or color is the source of life.

In Egypt colour and sound were used as part of their prayers to the Gods.
In Greece, Pythagoras who was a Greek philosopher in 6th Century B.C. and Aristotle a Greek philosopher from 384-322 BC developed theories about light and dark. 500 years before the birth of Christ, Pythagoras through the aid of music, poetry and colour, is said to have cured disease.

Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, and also a Greek physician believed that colour was an outward expression of an internal and pathological condition.

Paracelsus, a mystic and healer from 1493-1541, used plant life and herbs for healing. He also claimed the body had two substances - invisible and visible.

There are many physicians, chemists, writers, physicists, scientists and researchers who have developed and expanded on the healing qualities of energy. A few of the many are: Sir Isaac Newton 1642-1727; Dr. Edwin Babbitt 1829-1905; Dr. Wilhelm Reich 1897-1957; Rudolph Steiner 1861-1925.

Research and development is ongoing and evident in the many colour systems that are being used today.

What is Colour Energy?
Colour is light that is split into different wave lengths, which vibrate at different speeds and frequencies.

An object that absorbs all wavelengths and

does not reflect any back is black. An object that reflects everything is white. Between the black and white lies a beautiful spectrum with Red having the longest wavelength of appr. 700nm to Violet which has the shortest wavelength of appr. 400nm. We can also see the seven colours in a raindrop, rainbow and a snowflake. The vibrational difference from Red to Violet is app. 1:2 which is the same as one octave.

F. Birren, author of Color and Human Response, points out that "all civilizations since the beginning of man's existence worshipped the sun and from the sun came light and color."

In the Book of Genesis it is written, Then God said, "Let there be light" and there was light. Light is derived from the sun. Sunlight, the visible light, the rainbow, contains all the wavelengths. Light is the only energy we can see and we see it in the form of colour.

Colour enters the eyes and stimulates the pituitary and pineal glands which release substances that affect the endocrine system, the glands and various body parts. If the pituitary and pineal glands do not get a balance of every colour, the hormone production can be inhibited or accelerated. In order to be healthy we require energy from the full colour spectrum. The best way to get all the colour energies that we need is from the sun. Light is necessary to maintain healthy bodily functions.

Colour therapy is the use of colours to assist the body in its natural ability to heal itself. Colour can be used to treat physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances. The balance of colour in our system is very important in maintaining our well-being.
